Vision
To put Mingenew on the Map
Mission
To establish the "Mingenew Lions Expo" as a forum for new agricultural technology, research and inventiveness with a blend of family and community interest.
Expo History
In 1982, one of the dedicated Mingenew Lions, who was residing in Sydney, had travelled to Orange to attend the Orange Field Day and suggested that it would be expedient to conduct a machinery field day in Mingenew.
The ethic would be to create and "Exposition" which included all the necessary agricultural machinery exhibits and other supporting tools of the trade, with allied industries to meet as a one-stop-shop window for the Midwest populations to examine exhibits for purchasing on the day or contacting the dealer at a later time.
The Expo was to include agencies, financial institutions, marketing bodies and purveyor's of information vital to the productivity of the farmer. To add to the mix, the committee also included supportive information, educational facets and entertainment for the family.
The date of Friday 23 September 1983 was decided upon and planning began with community involvement from catering to site marking and set up.
Members from the Mingenew and surrounding communities volunteer their time and labour to bring the expo together. Their hours are logged and an hourly payment for their contribution is paid to their nomitated club or faculty.
With a site plan accomodating 100 exhibitors and an additional eight exhibitors being "under cover" in the big marquee the 1st Expo in 1983 recieved about two thousand visitors.
The success of the Mingenew Lions Midwest Expo has seen it grow from the initial one day to two days with over 400 exhibitor sites and 8000+ visitors.
